Reviews of 'Am I Not A Person?'

Other messages from readers:

Sylvia, you have given me the courage to tackle my problem.

I read this book in a day. I found it a true story of inspiration and I feel sure that any abused person out there that gets a chance to read this book will be helped by Sylvia's great journey to be free of the past.

I am a behaviour nurse therapist and work with women [diagnosed with learning disabilities] who have abusive histories. I want to pass on my compliments to Sylvia for allowing such insight into her life.

I just wanted to say how brave Sylvia is. My friend had similar experiences and I encouraged him to read this book. He did and he is now writing about his own experiences. Thank you.

I was abused too. I am 24, I cut and burn myself, I have taken overdoses and I am on high doses of anti-depressants and anti-psychotics. I can't have a physical relationship with anyone and I have eating disorders. It seems as if no-one cares. I feel so alone. I wish Sylvia so much love happiness and success in her life. She is very brave.

I loved this book and most of it made me cry. As a survivor of sexual abuse too, I really felt for Sylvia.

I am 25 years old, I too am a survivor, I was sexually abused by my uncle from when I was five. I just want to say thank you to Sylvia for telling her story, it helped me realise that we are worth so much, much, much more than I ever thought.

Tony Linghiah: Professional Development Advisor - Broadmoor Hospital, UK writes: This powerful autobiography ... captures the psychology of the effects of abuse, maternal rejection and exploitation. It is a fascinating and painful journey to regaining control of one's life, and leaves the reader feeling empowered to prevent abuse within human relationships. This book should be read by all mental health professionals and will also be a friend to people who have been abused.

Please note: Unfortunately, the book 'Portrayal of Pain' is not available. However, you can see Sylvia's artwork, poetry and sculpture on the web site: http://www.abusesupport.co.uk.
